Listen, picking a favourite coffee on day one is genuinely unfair. You haven't tried either. We're basically asking you to choose a side in an argument you haven't heard yet. The Bean

100% Arabica from the hills of Chikmagalur, Karnataka, where coffee has grown in the shade of pepper vines and silver oak since the 1600s, and where almost nobody outside India thinks to look for it.

Arabica carries about half the caffeine of Robusta and considerably more of everything else, which is why it tastes round instead of sharp. We brew it slow, concentrate it to 30ml, and seal it before it can go flat.

FUN FACT: Whether you like black coffee is partly genetic, and the science is backwards from what you'd expect. People who taste bitterness most strongly are the ones most likely to drink coffee black — they learn to read the bitterness as the signal that the caffeine is coming,
